King Alexander II of Scotland

On this day in 1249, King Alexander II of Scotland died of a fever on the Isle of Kerrera on his way to conquer the Hebrides from Norway. These islands were eventually ceded to Scotland in 1266 under his son Alexander III. Alexander was buried at Melrose Abbey.
